Sitting outside ‘Baby’s On Fire’
at a red table sipping coffee –
looking across Morton – more alley than street – parking lot and the backs of brick buildings. Woman with a red bucket and blue mop steps over a low wall and descends step by step to a cellar – white trash bags fly out followed by man in red hoodie who drags the trash bags to a dumpster.
Catherine arrives and we sit in the sunshine. I say, I went to a packed meeting on Monday led by young women strong and determined. She tells me about a petition to the Electoral College. We try to switch topic but keep coming back.
For now – this moment in time – the sun shines on Mount Vernon.
